CASA, Court Appointed Special Advocate, is another important community program Sunlight Supply supports. A CASA advocate is the tireless and passionate protector of a child who has been abused or neglected and is going through the trauma of the foster care system. They are granted tremendous authority by the court, and are able to do what it takes to see that a child is not ignored, their best interests and critical needs are addressed, and that the presiding judge is able to understand the true facts of a child's condition in an over-burdened child welfare system. In 1987, on the first Saturday in October, a handful of artists met on the Arcata Plaza for a one-time morning of “Sidewalk” art. Local businesses made a donation to Northcoast Children’s Services for each of the 29 squares. The art was scattered along the spokes of the Plaza cement. The City of Arcata staff was dubious about such an event. Those “one time” artists and businesses had such a good time it was continued every year until Pastels on the Plaza became the largest art event on the Northcoast and a major fundraiser for Northcoast Children’s Services (a non-profit serving over 1,000 children and families a year in their local; children’s programs in Humboldt and Del Norte counties). With October the weather is sometimes a consideration—wind, rain, drizzle, fog or sunshine—the artists endure and the event goes on. The Farmer’s Market has always been very accommodating; the live music and the harvest bounty create a wonderful back drop for the art and shoppers alike.
Sunlight Supply was proud to participate in this event this year and we hope to make it a yearly occurance!

Their goal is to collect and distribute toys and food to help make Christmas special for less fortunate families in the community. Santa's Posse was formed in 1997 in an effort to give back to the community and to help families in need during the holiday season.
